Bill Hicks Monographic
Book - 8x5 in
A monograph is a detailed study of a single specific subject or an aspect of it. I had recently watched a documentary on the life of Bill Hicks and this inspired me to study more about his life and to do a project that would spread his ideas. I chose an entirely typographical treatment for the inside of the book. I used three colours, black, white and red. I chose the type face Gill sans for its humanist nature but its edgy cut. It represents both Bill’s struggles to communicate with his audience through his short life, and his deep concern with the ultimate well being of his fellow human beings. Anyone who knows of Bill or his work understands that the cigarette is the only logical representation of him, and that it works on many disparate levels.
