Collection of Climbing Shoes
Poster - 36x24 in
This project was an exercise in cataloging and framing information, and we were instructed to use the collection of a favourite thing. I doubt this is normal but I’ve climbed for 9 years and have not thrown a pair of climbing shoes out. A pair usually lasts between 8 months and a year and, as I usually have two or three on the go, it is a substantial collection that looks deep into my evolution as a climber. The poster catalogues when I bought the shoes, how much I paid and gives a brief synopsis about the shoe, why I bought it and what I accomplished during the shoes life. This project taught me a lot about organizing larger amounts of repetitive information. Along with the poster we were also doing exercises in tables and annual reports so as to learn the program skills necessary to successfully lay out the information pertaining to our collections. The poster was set in the type faces Courier and Avenir. Courier was used to create a clash between the rigidness of text and the freedom of the shoes, Avenir was used for its legibility at small size.
